Do you like the internet? YouTube? Fanart/Cosplay? Freedom of Speech? Job (web related)? Freedom in general..?
Congress is currently trying to pass a bill called SOPA; censoring the internet to stop piracy. Experts agree there are better ways to stop piracy than asking the U.S. to censor the internet.
Basically, to put it into terms that everyone here might connect more with....no more amv's, no more cosplay, no more fanart. If you didn't make the idea 100% by you, it can no longer be on the internet. Sure, cosplaying is fun on it's own, but getting rid of our entire online community..? We'd be back to forums with no banners.
Of course, these aren't my main concerns, and I won't get into freedom of speech because I didn't post this to debate.
PLEASE sign the petition at the bottom of this journal.
You may not care if the internet is censored, but this is going to not only hurt nerds, but more importantly the millions of people who have jobs because of this freedom.
Not in this recession... not ever.

The constitution is pretty much thrown out the door if these bills pass. It just really comes down to money and how much Hollywood wants to pad their deep pockets even further. I mean they want to use the strong arm of the law and jail someone for 5 years for streaming music on youtube. how fucked up is that?

However it's a battle of moralities. "Oh you don't support this bill? You must be a pedofile then" Kinda deal... =_= being from Canada I hate to see my comrades being toyed with in such a way.

I completely agree with you. I live here because I enjoy the freedom. That's what this country was built off of, and if they're going to take that away then what's the point of being here? I enjoy my freedoms and rights. Telling the public what they can and cannot do isn't going to stop anyone... they'll just get better at it, and make everything more complicated. It's like when people break any law; just don't get caught.
